Keep on rollin'

We hit another milestone with the little man this weekend. I was chatting with friends and absentmindedly playing with Tommy on the floor and saw him reaching over farther than he had before and then BAM he was on his belly looking up. I put him back on his back and within a couple of minutes he had rolled over again. Determined little dude.

Now, I love watching the kids grow and hit all of the milestones they should, but this particular milestone has always come at a price for us at bedtime. Back is best, they say. Well, yes, it is and when your baby is used to only sleeping on their back and end up rolling over in the middle of the night (over and over and over again) they wake up pretty ticked off. So last night was a bit of a bust. Tommy kept rolling over and each time he did, he'd get so angry it would take quite awhile to soothe him back to sleep. Then at some point he was just mad for no reason at all or at least nothing I did calmed him down. Needless to say I'm on my second large cup of coffee for the morning and in search of a caffeine IV.

For now here's Tommallama rolling over last night and again this morning.

Roll on over, little girl

Lexi's daycare teachers have been telling me how much she loves tummy time and how well she's been doing. Well, tonight we could really see how well she's doing. And yes, that's crazy Stasa running around in the background with a burp cloth. She wanted in on tummy time, too.

And what does tummy time lead to you ask? Well, crawling, for one, but also this:

She started rolling from her belly to back awhile ago, but a few days ago we noticed she would wake up on her belly. At first I figured it was a fluke, but she's been rolling over consistently now.

She rolls and scoots!

She scoots! Well, kind of in this video.

She started off by the giraffe with her butt and legs OFF of the mat.

She rolls!

16 weeks old

Stasa's 16 weeks old now! Besides her "fun" sleeping habits, she's become much more interactive. It's so cute when she looks at you and then scrunches up in a big grin. She's also "talking" to things now. Mostly her toys on her car seat, but she'll also chat it up with Tom. I've secretly been saying "mama" to her to see if that will be her first word. I guess I should do the same with "dada".

I'm so glad I work from home on Fridays because I put her down for tummy time this morning and SHE ROLLED OVER onto her back. I put her back on her tummy to see if she would do it again and she was not thrilled. So I put her on her back to play on her playmat and she rolled over onto her tummy and then back onto her back. She's a genius! I'm going to keep working on this. It's so exciting!

I think we're to blame for all of the rain we've been experiencing. The day after we put this slicker on the flamingo, it started raining. Oops!
Post rain fun with daddy

"Is there a rainbow, daddy?"

"Nom nom nom, I love my fingers."

Saying hello to our neighbor, Julie. She's OBSESSED with Stasa. (and I sterilized Stasa's hands after Julie went in)

"Mommy, I'm flying!"

I hate using my flash, but it was so dark inside and she was being so cute. Look how slimy her fingers are.

Almost!

Stasa's thisclose to rolling from her belly to her back. She kicks and kicks and pushes with her arm and gets halfway and then gets frustrated. We're going to keep putting her on her tummy to give her more opportunities to roll. She tries the same thing when she's on her back - she can get on to her side, but no further. She feels the pressure to perform now that her friends Henry and Audrey have rolled over.

I tried getting a picture of her trying today, but she got upset before I could grab my camera. I think I'll try video next time.
