The first tooth down

A few months ago while flossing Stasa's teeth, we noticed what we initially thought was a second row of teeth coming in. Yeah, you might think that's something that only sharks have, but apparently Tom was part shark as a kid and he had rows of teeth seedlings in his mouth. We've always joked that Stasa is a shark since she got her first tooth at four months and then had a mouthful before all of the other kids.

The second row of teeth turned out to be a single adult tooth - all jagged at the top and HUGE compared to her baby teeth. Her two bottom teeth started to get wiggly and loose and we started checking on the loose teeth every night. Finally one night she was talking and her one bottom tooth looked higher than all of the others. I asked to check it and sure enough it was hanging on by a thread. She sat in Tom's lap and I gave it a teeny tug and out it came. She was AMAZED and so happy and couldn't stop looking at her new smile.

I dug out my old tooth pillow from my childhood and had her place the little tooth in it and then under her pillow. Before bed she put her ear against the tooth fairy's door to make sure she could hear her in there. LOL

The tooth fairy did not disappoint and when Stasa woke up she plunged her hand under her pillow and pulled out two new dimes. She was so proud of those new dimes and kept them with her all day - even at school, though we did warn her that she might lose them. I'm pretty sure she kept them in her sweaty fist all day. As soon as she was home we had her put them in her jar to put towards the Hello Kitty she's saving up for. Tom and I were both a bit wistful for our little baby Stasa. Not a week goes by that we don't look at each other and mention how grown up she's getting. Stasa on the other hand can't wait to grow up even more. She's already counting down to her sixth birthday. Slow down, little girl. Enjoy being five.

In which Alexia turns three

Lexi's third birthday came and went faster than I thought it would. In the beginning of March I remember chatting with Tom about her birthday and what we were going to get her and plan for her and then BAM it was the week of her birthday and we hadn't accomplished anything. Thankfully she's easy to buy for and simply requested "a lot of Hello Kitties." So I packed up Stas and went out to Old Navy to get her just that. Together we picked out a new Hello Kitty shirt, two more small stuffed Hello Kitty dolls, a Hello Kitty flashlight and Hello Kitty water bottle.

Stas was sick on Lexi's actual birthday, so she stayed home while Tom and I worked from home. She helped decorate, and made a banner and card for Lexi before running up to get dolled up (including doing her own makeup).

Stasa and I stayed home while Tom went to school to pick up Tommy and Lexi. She was so excited the minute she walked through the door and saw all of the decorations...especially the balloons. I don't know what it is about balloons, but if we bought nothing but those, the kids would probably be happy. She counted up her balloons and then split them evenly between her and Stasa. Then it was straight to gifts. Each and every thing she opened she hugged and declared it her favorite thing ever.

After opening all of her gifts, she and Stasa ran around like looney toons with the balloons. Tommy took advantage of the opportunity and snatched some of Lexi's presents and started playing with them himself. IMG_1273

We let Lexi decide what to have for dinner and she, of course, picked chicken nuggets, apple slices, and chocolate milk (gee, I wonder where you could get *that* meal?). After dinner it was time for cake. I tried a new frosting for this one and it turned out pretty good. It wasn't as sweet as buttercream, but I thought it was perfect and nice and light. I also tried my hand at making colored sanding sugar for the rainbow. I didn't bake it so it really looks more like sand than crystals, but Lexi loved it because it was a rainbow and that's all that matters, right?

Hello hello hello? Is there anybody in there?

Yeah, so I guess I've been a bit busy seeing. as I haven't even checked in here in nearly a month. Between my new job and the million projects I've started around the house, plus Lexi's birthday and Tommy's upcoming birthday, I've had zero time. And yet, I have so many things to update on here - like Lexi's birthday and Stasa's first visit from the tooth fairy and spring days and plans for a shared sisters bedroom. Maybe I'll find some quiet time this Sunday to put it all together. In the meantime, here's a picture of my sweet babies.
