9 Weeks Old and 2 Month Stats

Well, I'm now down to my last three weeks of leave. And we still haven't really gotten a routine down. Tommy cat naps a lot during the day, but it's hit or miss on the long naps. For instance right now he's snoozing in the swing and has been asleep for about 45 minutes and will probably sleep for another 45. But yesterday he didn't nap until later in the day. Usually at night I feed him around the time we're reading stories to the girls, but instead of putting him in his room we've been bringing him downstairs with us and he sleeps in his Rock-n-Play until we go up to bed. Last night I finally decided to try something new.

After dinner I took all three kids upstairs for a group bath, a first for them. I've let each girl bathe with Tommy, but hadn't put all three in the tub together because the girls are water monsters when they're in the bath together and I kind of feared for Tommy's safety. The girls promised not to splash with him in the tub, so I gave it a go.

They were fantastic. They took turns soaping him up and rinsing him with their cups.

After bath, the girls got themselves ready for bed while I dressed Tommy and then we went to the playroom to watch a show and read books. While the girls watched their show I fed Tommy and put him to sleep in his crib, only the second time he's ever slept there. It was nice having him asleep when it was time to get the girls in bed, especially since Tom was out for the night. Over two months in with the new baby and I'm just now thinking to get him on an evening schedule.

We took the Tommallama to the doctor for his two month appointment. The doctor confirmed that he has reflux, but agrees that since he's a happy spitter there's no need to put him on meds. She said he'll grow out of it by 6-9 months old and just to keep him somewhat upright after his feedings. She was impressed with his head and neck control and growth since his last appointment. Tom and I knew he was long, but didn't realize  how much he grew. He's longer than Lexi was at two months old and she's been off the charts in height. Here are Tommy's two month stats:
Height: 24.75", 96th percentile
Weight: 12 lbs, 60th percentile
Head size: 16", 68th percentile

He's almost a full inch longer than Lexi was. We're going to have some tall kids on our hands. We're on our way to our own basketball team. Yay!

A new thing to fight about

The new kid likes to soil himself, but really what baby doesn't? After I fed him yesterday morning he spit up a RIVER of mess. All over him and all over me. As I was cleaning him up he spit up even more and then peed all over both of us. I gave him a quick wash down, got him dressed and covered in burp cloths and then took off to visit with Tom at work.

We're still getting the hang of changing diapers on the boy. It really feels like the clock's ticking the whole time and we're playing with fire with each second we leave him exposed. It was even harder when we were still putting vaseline for his circumcision and dealing with the umbilical stump. While it's gotten easier since those two have healed, it's still hit or miss with pee getting everywhere. All of that to say, the kid needs to be bathed frequently so he doesn't smell like urine or curdled milk.

We started off bathing him in the sink, but the girls wanted so badly to help us and the sink is too high for them to really see or help. So we moved him to the big tub and decided to let the girls take turns bathing with him. I'm still deciding if this was one of the worst ideas I've had because now the girls argue constantly about whose turn it is to bathe Tommy. The way they carry on about it you'd think they were arguing over who gets the crown jewels. And it's not like they get to do a whole hell of a lot. We put Tommy in his bath seat, have one of the girls hop in the tub with him, and "shower" them both. We let the girls wash his feet, legs, and belly and then have them focus on cleaning their own body. The entire process takes less than 10 minutes.

I guess I should be grateful that they're fighting over who gets to care for their baby brother instead of fighting just to fight. They both love him so much and want to help with everything, sometimes they're overly helpful, like when Tommy's dead asleep and they're trying to stuff his pacifier in his mouth because "he NEEDS it." It does give me hope that they'll be even more helpful when we have our next. Yeah, I know, we're just a little nuts, but we've always wanted a large family.

OMG I ALMOST HAD TO SURRENDER MY HOUSE

I was minding my own business (I know, so unusual for me, but whatever) and was making myself a cup of tea since I have a bad cough. I was joking around with Tom while walking over to the pantry to get a tea bag and then all of a sudden I saw a huge giant monster of a spider on my floor. Okay, I totally admit that I'm a bit of a drama queen and my fear of spiders can cause me to exaggerate their size, but seriously, this spider was so huge if Tom weren't around to kill it, I would have packed up and let the spider keep the house.

Tom thought I was overreacting until he went in the kitchen to kill the spider and then saw the beast. I've never seen a spider that large. It was like the size of a tarantula, but scarier and I'm pretty sure it was carrying knives. Apparently I'm supposed to calm down know since the spider is dead. Allegedly.

Let's try and forget about how I almost lost my life tonight and talk about something else, shall we? Lexi stayed home with me today since she had a fever this morning (she's fine now, BTW). She was in a pretty good mood most of the day, although a bit clingy, and had a blast doing tummy time. No, seriously, she loved it. See?

We managed to eat early tonight and had enough time to walk to the pool and play for awhile before it closed. Water day at school + pool time = bath night for everyone. We put Lexi in the tub with Stasa and they both loved it, even though they look shell shocked in this pic (I think it's because I was trying to get them to smile and they didn't want me interrupting play time).

Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go spider proof my house. Or at the very least find a way to guarantee they won't get in my bedroom. ::sigh:: I don't anticipate sleeping well tonight.

BUBBLES!

You know this girl loves a bubble bath and gets even more excited when we turn the jets on in the tub to make MORE BUBBLES!

And as usual, after her bath we played a bit before bedtime.

We had all of the upstairs doors open and she ran into the nursery and grabbed the bouncy chair for her bears. I guess she thought they had enough bouncing and decided to put the chair back by herself.

Blue bath!

Santa left Stasa a tub of Bath Dropz in her stocking for Christmas and we tried one out the other night and had a blue bath.

After her bath it was time for pjs, books, and bed.

Stasa thinks her Elmo slippers are actually Muno from Yo Gabba Gabba. She has to wear her "Muno" slippers to bed every night and if they come off she calls out "uh oh Muno!"

We love bathtime!

BUBBLES! As soon as I mention going upstairs for bathtime, the bubble monster comes out. "Bubble? Bubble? BUBBLE!?!?!" And then she sprints up the stairs and dances in the bathroom until I start filling the tub.

Oh and look what she can do now - she's figuring out how to climb out on her own. Excellent.

"I'm SOOOOOOOO big!"

Caged

For some reason Stas really wanted to play in her crib Tuesday afternoon. So I threw her in with her blankets, lovey and bears and she had a blast.

And look at this crazy face she kept giving me:

After about 30 minutes she decided she was done being caged and was ready to come out.

Upon being released she ran over to the glider to practice her daredevil skills. I'm pretty impressed that she's able to climb in and out of the chair without falling and she's even able to climb up on the rocking ottoman, too.

Annnnnnd my new favorite picture of our baby:

After dinner she had a bath since she's been spending time at the pool with Gigi at daycare.

And then she got to play the guitar for a little while with daddy before bedtime. She's actually pretty good at strumming and loves being daddy's capo.
